Kazuya Hiraide is waiting in Hunza for Veikka Gustafsson before the two will set off towards GI in a few days (www.explorersweb.com, 22.6.2009). Veikka arrived at Islamabad yesterday (Veikka’s report in radio Suomi 22.6.), today (23.6.) he’s flying to Skardu. Hunza has been believed to be the inspiration for the mythical valley of Shangri-la in James Hilton‘s 1933 novel Lost Horizon.

International GIV East Face and GIII Expedition and also GI and GII are also included in Normand’s climbing permit
Led by Bruce Normand and David Falt, the team includes members from UK, Sweden, Canada, New Zealand and Kazakhstan. The expedition kicked off already on May 20th.
German GI, GII and GVI expedition
Dirk Grunert will attempt both Gasherbrums plus GVI, together with three other climbing partners.
