If you want to do a different longer run from Fuengirola. A morning run up to the top of Mijas (1150 m) will hit the spot. It’s easy for an active runner. Start out early, before sun rise, if you have to be at work that day, I had to be at Escuela Finlandesa after noon.
I started from the Paseo, from Hotel Stella Maris. Ran past Rafaello square, up to Los Pacos, past Suomela aka Girasol. Took the dirt road after the hill and headed over the bridge on the left. Took the tunnel to the other side of the highway. So then up a small hill and took left down to the Mijas road. Up the big Mijas road , which was steep at parts and took me almost 30min to the gas station. That was also a good marathon heart beat level work out. (Which continued to the top. So 90min at above marathon heart rate level running.) Bought two bottles of water at the gas station. Ran to the start of the Ruta Normale and headed up the mountain. I had a goal first in my mind that I won’t take a single walking step on the way, but had to back from that thought. The route is so steep and includes steps which had to be walked. But, after 56 min from Mijas I stood by the top marker. 50 some minutes later I was back in Mijas. After reaching Paseo again I felt good, nice morning run. Total of 3 h 44 min with some stops at the top and buying water and a Coke on the way down at Mijas.

I used to go hiking there, when I spent one winter in Fuengirola. When you arrive at the village of Mijas there are these drinking fountains welcoming the visitor -so cool!
Suvi, you have been everywhere. We’re walking the same paths.
